Mama in the City: Ben's Birthday Bicycle

Well, Hello There!

Mama in the City since 2008 and blogging since 2009!

Hi! I'm Andrea, a 30 something girl who loves living the downtown lifestyle and didn't want to give it up once I started a family. I live in beautiful Vancouver city right along the seawall and three years ago I had my first baby.

My first apartment baby is now a full on boy and we struggle with finding space in our condo for his growing toy collection. I'm also a new mum to our second apartment baby, born January 13, 2012!

I have a husband who is an excellent cook and takes amazing photos. I work as a labor and delivery nurse and really love the work that I do and gave birth to baby #2 at my work place.

I use this space to write about my family and to share my passion about breastfeeding, birth and parenting. I have a fantastic purse collection and have loved watching it grow, mostly lovely gifts over the years from my husband. I currently have a closet full of purses that are too small or impractical to fit a diaper or sippy cup in, and so they are on hold for future years.

Ben's Birthday Bicycle

Tomorrow I go back to work, and will be between night shifts on the day my boy turns 2. I'll be at work helping some other mama deliver her birth day baby (maybe at 3:38 AM as well?!). So, because of this we decided to give him his birthday gift this afternoon, and since Ben can't yet read the calendar, this worked out well for all of us. We gave him an orange balance bike from Strider and took it outside for his initial test drive.

He really wasn't too sure about the bike and he looked quite concerned about things for the first while. He inspected all the tires and tried to get on it a few times, and he pushed it around like a walker.

He sang 'Happy Birthday' when we told him it was his special birthday bike, but he wasn't too interested at trying for more than a few minutes.

We headed back inside and I ended up carrying the bike back with us. I can't help but think that soon my months of training Ben to sing the perfect rendition of 'Happy Birthday' will pay off!
