Evil Dread: The Night Shift Blues

I've told you all before about the feeling of dread that I have before a night shift. Even though right now I am at home hanging out with my boy, and doing a whole lot of nothing much, the pending night shift is constantly on my mind. Night shift! Night shift!

The dread of the night shift constantly creeps into my thoughts reminding me that I don't want to do 'too much' on my time off today, just in case the night shift is crazy busy. At the same time I want to do something so I feel like I made use of my time at home. See the dilemma peeps?

As much as I really really want to do a load of laundry and run a couple errands... I also realize that when 4 AM comes I will thank myself if I have had some lazy relaxation time at home and also maybe a nap. A nap is a definite must for me.

I have been a RN for 7 years now and the night shifts blues have always haunted me before heading into work. It doesn't matter how much I love my job, a night shift is not my favourite and no matter how I spin it, the dread always finds me. I'm already counting down to my shift tonight.

PS. When I went to school to become a nurse I was totally unaware that most nurses work shift work 24/7. In fact, I didn't even give it much thought at all yet here I am!

I couldn't do it. Ever. You are a stronger woman than I. :)

Maybe you should become a school nurse when Ben starts at school. You could be on the same schedule!
