I'm not much of a bottled water drinker but this is so cool. Love it!

Well, Hello There!
Mama in the City since 2008 and blogging since 2009!
My first apartment baby is now a full on boy and we struggle with finding space in our condo for his growing toy collection. I'm also a new mum to our second apartment baby, born January 13, 2012!
I have a husband who is an excellent cook and takes amazing photos. I work as a labor and delivery nurse and really love the work that I do and gave birth to baby #2 at my work place.
I use this space to write about my family and to share my passion about breastfeeding, birth and parenting. I have a fantastic purse collection and have loved watching it grow, mostly lovely gifts over the years from my husband. I currently have a closet full of purses that are too small or impractical to fit a diaper or sippy cup in, and so they are on hold for future years.
Have a question or a comment? Email me! I also love to read comments left on posts, so feel free to leave me a note!

July 24, 2009 at 3:45 PMHey Mama in the City,
July 24, 2009 at 3:55 PMThat is pretty cute but I think your baby is cuter. I was wondering if you would do a post about all the photographs that you put up because they are amazing and I would like to know some tips on how to get photos like that. I know it is a mix of things but maybe you could do a little tutorial on how to get them sharp and crisp and also how to blur the background. I don't know just an idea or something?
Love your blog.
Steph.
Thanks for the kind words about the photos and I think your idea about a photography post is excellent. I've been telling Andrea I would be happy to do a guest post but I didn't have a topic.
July 24, 2009 at 11:09 PMIn regards to the blurred background, that is a result of a few things -- the most important factor is sensor size. The bigger the sensor in your camera, the less "depth-of-field" you will have... so if you're using a point-and-shoot camera (like a small handheld camera with a built in lens) you're going to have trouble achieving the same look as if you were using a full digital SLR. This is one case where equipment does matter as it is a result of physics and light; the bigger cameras have bigger sensors which gives you less effective depth-of-field.
Now if you only have a point-and-shoot available, there are things you can do to get closer to the look -- don't use flash, have your subject in good light, and move the background further away from your subject while zooming in as far as you can. If you use the longer zoom range of your camera and you put some separation between your subject and the background, you will effectively blur the background more and make the main subject appear more crisp
What kind of camera is the best kind to get?
