I asked my boy what he would like for his upcoming third birthday and he knew what he wanted right way, like in a nanosecond.
He wants a backhoe.
Ben has naturally gravitated towards trucks and diggers and all things construction since he was just over a year old. In fact, at this time last year he was befriending the construction crew downtown.
Extreme concentration is required during this part!
His favourite show of the moment is Bob The Builder and he can identify each piece of equipment at great speed. There has started to be occasions where he has corrected me. 'That's not a backhoe mama! That's a wheel loader!'. Apparently, I'm already exasperating my child. Funny because I thought that came more in the tween years?
I'm currently scoping out the coolest backhoe a three year old could possibly want. I recently saw a big sale on of different diggers but I could already feel the upset if I was to go ahead and buy an excavator or (gasp!) a wheel loader instead of the coveted backhoe.

Well, Hello There!
Mama in the City since 2008 and blogging since 2009!
My first apartment baby is now a full on boy and we struggle with finding space in our condo for his growing toy collection. I'm also a new mum to our second apartment baby, born January 13, 2012!
I have a husband who is an excellent cook and takes amazing photos. I work as a labor and delivery nurse and really love the work that I do and gave birth to baby #2 at my work place.
I use this space to write about my family and to share my passion about breastfeeding, birth and parenting. I have a fantastic purse collection and have loved watching it grow, mostly lovely gifts over the years from my husband. I currently have a closet full of purses that are too small or impractical to fit a diaper or sippy cup in, and so they are on hold for future years.
Have a question or a comment? Email me! I also love to read comments left on posts, so feel free to leave me a note!

Too cute! It's amazing how smart these little people are - my girls correct me more than I'd care to admit sometimes, but it always makes me smile. Both that they are smart enough to know the right answer and that they are confident enough to correct someone kindly :)
August 18, 2011 at 8:28 PMIt is so interesting watching their interests develop. My son is really into all things sports. Name a sport and he will play it for long periods of time. He also loves dinosaurs and knows a lot of their names. I hope you find a very cool backhoe.
August 18, 2011 at 9:22 PMMy almost three year old daughter is also obsessed with big trucks and machinery. She's going to be a tow-truck driver when she grows up. My uncle took her for a ride in his loader in May and I kept calling it a digger and boy did she let me know! (She's been begging for a "bike with no pedals" for months for her birthday...)
August 18, 2011 at 9:47 PMMy oldest was the exact same way at that age, it was such fun!
August 19, 2011 at 9:17 AMNow he is into video games and I annoy him even more with my ignorance :)
Hope you find the perfect one for Ben's birthday!
I love it! Although backhoes and diggers may be the least fascinating things going for a Mama, you celebrate his interest and excitement in such a great way! Happy shopping for all things construction with big wheels! ; )
August 19, 2011 at 10:32 AMMy son went through the same stage too, and wanted all of the Bob the Builder characters, which is almost impossible to find! Good luck on finding the primo backhoe.
