Mama in the City

One part of the world of Vancouver blogging that I enjoy is all of the invitations that come my way for fun local family events in my city. Christmastime comes with lots of attractions popping up throughout the city and since I'm still enjoying my maternity leave, I have more opportunity to hit up more festivities this year. So, what's happening around Vancouver? Check it out!

Canyon Lights opens this weekend at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in North Vancouver. This is an event for all ages and will showcase hundreds of thousands of lights sparkling through the rainforest. This event will also offer a scavenger hunt for children, gingerbread cookie decorating and sing along carols with the holiday band. New this year is the free shuttle that leaves Canada Place every hour on the hour. We are very excited to go to this event this year and I know both my kids will love the lights. If you are looking to take your family to a little holiday show consider going to The Magic Of Santa at the Pacific Coliseum. There will be singing and dancing with larger than life characters. This is a time limited event though, so if a family holiday show appeals to you get your tickets here. We received complimentary tickets to this show and I think that Ben is going to get a big kick out of it!





Maple Wood Farms in North Vancouver is celebrating the holiday season by hosting the North Pole BC attraction with lots of twinkly lights and fun sights for children. There will be interactive activities and scenes and a chance to meet Santa too. More information and tickets can be found here.

It's snowing up on the mountains! Get right into the Christmas spirit by taking a sleigh ride up on Grouse Mountain (weather permitted!). Meet Dancer and Vixen the visiting reindeer and stop by the Children's Gingerbread Village for some fun. This is a full day event with ice skating,indoor movies and of course a visit with Santa. If you just want to stay in the city grab a hot chocolate and take a stroll by St. Pauls Hospitals annual Lights Of Hope. Keep on walking and check out the Christmas tree display down the street at Sutton Place hotel. This is the 6th year that Sutton Place has hosted their 'Home For The Holidays' fundraising event. With a $5 donation you can cast your vote for your favourite tree and all proceeds benefit PALS Autism school plus you're entered for a chance to win some fabulous prizes.
